  • Descrição: Two friends, Tom and Willem, are both in love with the young widow Louise Grant. Through a misunderstanding, Willem thinks that Louise has chosen for Tom, and he leaves the two of them alone. Tom takes this opportunity to ask for Louise's hand. Louise cannot tell him anything, and in the meanwhile Tom argues with a coachman who has been mistreating his horses. Louise has her daughter deliver a letter to Tom at the construction site where the two men work. Willem has to bring the letter to Tom (unwillingly, of course), and arrives just in time to save Tom: the vengeful coachman has hung Tom up on a crane, very high up. Tom reads the letter in which Louise rejects his proposal; she is in love with Willem. Tom lets Willem read the letter, and the overjoyed Willem then goes to Louise, where the matter is settled.
